On June 28, 2016, NYCEEC hosted with the Building Energy Exchange (BEEx) an event to discuss Roosevelt Landings, home to one of the largest clean energy retrofits in New York City.  NYCEEC provided the financing for $4.5M of the $8M total that allowed the project to come to fruition in 2013, and the results have been excellent.

Having already achieved moderate cost savings through NYSERDA’s Multifamily Performance Program, the owners of Roosevelt Landings, Urban American, wanted to push forward with a deeper retrofit and resiliency project to further modernize the complex. These holistic efforts included cogeneration, envelope upgrades, smart controls and air sealing. Roosevelt Landings offers multiple lessons for the many large multifamily rental buildings in New York City burdened with electric-resistant heat and aging building systems.

We heard from a comprehensive set of perspectives, answering questions like: how did the team prioritize their efforts?  What unexpected hurdles were overcome?  Which technologies were implemented?  How was the financing structured?

At the event, we released our Roosevelt Landings case study, “Clean Energy Pays Off in the Multifamily Market.” And the results are in.  The project has been a success–outperforming expectations, increasing property value and improving tenant comfort.  To date, it has generated cumulative energy savings of 24%–exceeding projections.  Our case study goes into further detail.
